Fact trickling

Fact (data) trickling is the repetitive process in which the FAP Service looks for changes (inserts, updates, deletions) in the IBM® Cognos® Controller database, and updates the FAP cubes accordingly.
Figure 1. Fact trickling
The FAP service searches for data changes in the Controller database and transfers changes to the FAP database. The changes are then transferred to the FAP cubes.

The fact trickling process:

  1. Based on the clock interval defined in the FAP client, the FAP Service searches for changes in the IBM Cognos Controller database.
  2. The FAP Service transfers all changes from the IBM Cognos Controller database to the FAP database.
  3. A TI process fetches facts from the FAP database and updates the nodes in the FAP cubes.

Each data trickle cycle generates a log in the FAP client log.
