Getting started with Monitor this for administrators
The getting started with Monitor this for administrators workflow outlines the high-level steps to set up and use the Monitor this option. The Monitor this option assists users in setting up monitoring based on a transaction in the Completed File Transfers list and the Completed Processes list.
Consider the following details when you are planning and configuring Monitor This for IBM® Sterling Control Center Monitor users.
Planning for Monitor this
- Which users need to monitor transactions but do not need permission to create rules, SLCs, and
other objects that are needed to set up monitoring for those transactions?
This user can click Monitor this on the Completed File Transfers list and the Completed Processes list in the web console. When this user selects a transaction and then clicks Monitor this, a form is populated with information from the transaction. When the user submits the request, an administrator receives the email request that is populated with information from the transaction. The administrator can then launch the Create a New Rule or Create a New SLC page. The administrator can edit values as needed and create the necessary rule, SLC, and related objects that are needed to monitor the transaction in the future.
- Which users need to monitor transactions and also need permission to create rules, SLCs, and
their related objects?
This user can click Monitor this for success or failure and then select one of four secondary options on the Completed File Transfers list and the Completed Processes list in the web console. When the user selects a transaction, clicks Monitor this for success or failure, and then selects one of the secondary options: Monitor this for success or failure, Monitor this for missed start time, Monitor this for missed end time, or Monitor this for excessive time to complete, a form is populated with information about the transaction. The user can edit the form as needed to specify monitoring criteria for future transactions and create the necessary objects such as rules, SLCs, calendars, schedules, and actions.
- Which administrator receives Monitor this email requests and creates the rules, SLCs, and
related objects that support them?
This administrator receives the Monitor ghis email requests from users who do not have permission to create rules, SLCs, and supporting objects.
- Is this administrator's email address listed as the system-wide administrator email address for IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor?
- See Monitor this overview for a description of the Monitor this feature.
- See Permissions for information about the permissions that can be set for IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor users.
- See Email settings for information about determining the current system-wide administrator email address.
Configuring for Monitor this
After you make the planning decisions for the Monitor this option, complete the following tasks to configure IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor for Monitor this:
- Set permissions for users who can view transactions in the Completed File Transfers list and
Completed Processes list and submit a Monitor this request but cannot create objects. For
information about setting user permissions, see Permissions.
- Ensure that the user's role has View Only or Manage permission for Processes and None or View Only permission for the following objects: Rules/Schedules, SLCs/Schedules, Calendars, and Actions.
- Set permissions for users who can view transactions in the Completed File Transfers list and
Completed Processes list and create rules, SLCs, and related objects by clicking Monitor
this. Typically, this user has a superuser role with Manage permissions to all 25
functions and no server or DVG restrictions. For more information about setting user permissions,
see Permissions.
- Ensure that the user's role has View or Manage permission for Processes, and Manage permission for the following objects: Rules/Schedules, SLCs/Schedules, Calendars, and Actions. Users do not need Email List permission to create rules and SLCs by using the Monitor this feature.
- Change the system-wide administrator email address. For more information, see Email
settings.
- If you need to change the system-wide email address that is defined in the System Settings, run the configCC utility and specify the administrator's email address to receive Monitor this email requests.
Processing Monitor this requests
When a user submits a Monitor this request, the administrator, who is defined as the recipient of system-wide emails, receives an email that is populated with information about the transaction. The administrator can click a link in the email to launch the Create a New Rule or Create a New Simple SLC page in the web console. The web console form is populated with information from the request. The administrator can edit the rule or SLC and supporting objects as needed to create the best options for future monitoring of the transaction.
Monitor this requests generate an email, but they are not kept in a queue and do not have an associated workflow. As a result, the administrator who receives the email must manage the requests. If the administrator fails to act on the request, nothing happens.
