Manually Assigning Monitored Servers to an Event Processor

By default, the controller event processor assigns newly added monitored servers to the event processor with the least number of assigned servers. You can change this default assignment by manually assigning a different event processor for a server. When you assign a server to a different event processor, the currently assigned event processor completes any activity before the server is reassigned to its new event processor.

About this task

If an event processor stops, then IBM® Sterling Control Center Monitor by default temporarily reassigns its servers with equal distribution to the available event processors. IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor returns the servers to the event processor when it becomes active again. If you prefer that the servers are assigned to a specific event processor, you can manually reassign these servers in the Servers tab. You must be an IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor administrator to complete this task.

Tip: You can also assign an event processor to servers when you view server properties of individual servers or server groups. In the Server details tab, select an event processor from the Assign processor drop-down menu, then click OK.

To reassign monitored servers to a different event processor:

Procedure

  1. In the web console, click Manage > Event processors.
  2. In the navigation pane, select an event processor, then click the Servers tab.
  3. Drag a server from the Servers tab to a different event processor in the navigation pane.

Results

Attention: When you manually assign servers that are monitored by SNMP traps to a different event processor, a warning dialog appears. If the system administrator does not reconfigure the server to send events in the SNMP traps to the newly assigned event processor, the newly assigned event processor cannot receive them. To avoid losing data from events during server reassignment, the system administrator must reconfigure the server to send the events in the SNMP traps to the newly assigned event processor.

For a manually reassigned server, an audit log entry is created that displays the current and previous values for the assigned event processor of the server. When you manually assign a server to an event processor, the rules with the message ID CNCD032E "Server Updated, ID: serverID, by: userID" are triggered.
