Installation process

There are multiple tasks that you must complete to install IBM® Sterling Control Center Monitor.

Perform the following high-level tasks to install IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor:

  • Create production database for use by IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor
  • Install and configure the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor engine
  • Run the configCC utility after you install IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor.
  • Log on to the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor using the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor web console
To install IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor, you complete the following tasks at computers where you plan to install the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor engine:
  1. Review the Release Notes and information center topics about installing, upgrading, and migrating IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor.
  2. Download product updates from IBM Passport Advantage®. Maintenance updates are available from Fix Central or Support Portal.
  3. Determine the computers where IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor will be installed. Based on the operating system, estimate the engine and database requirements. See Detailed System Requirements and Determining engine and database requirements.
  4. Gather the database information that is required during the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor installation. See Creating and setting up database and Detailed System Requirements.
  5. Create the production database to store IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor processing information either on UNIX or Microsoft Windows.
    CAUTION:
    A database with partitioned IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor tables is the preferred for better performance and data purging.
    Consult your database documentation and see Configuring secure connections, Creating DB2 databases and database users for Linux, UNIX, and Windows, Creating DB2 databases and database users on z/OS, Creating an Oracle database and database users (schemas), or Creating Microsoft SQL Server database and database user.
  6. If console will access the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor engine using a secure connection, gather information to configure the HTTPS connection. See Determine HTTPS information for the engine and console connection.
  7. Install the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor engine. See Installing and configuring IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor from the command line on UNIX or Installing and configuring IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor by using the GUI installer on Microsoft Windows.
  8. Configure Sterling Connect:Enterprise® for z/OS® servers to communicate with IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor. Skip this step if you are not using IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor to monitor Sterling Connect:Enterprise servers. See Configuring Sterling Connect:Enterprise for z/OS.
  9. If you plan to monitor FTP servers, install the FTP agents. See Setting up IBM Control Center to monitor Sterling Connect:Direct File Agent.
