High-level process to set up non-z/OS FTP servers

To monitor non-z/OS FTP servers with IBM® Sterling Control Center Monitor, you must install and configure an IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor FTP agent.

Note: The IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor FTP agent must be installed on the computer where the FTP server is running. For FTP agents that use FTP logs, IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor must have "read" access to the FTP server log file and know the name and directory location of the FTP logs.
Install and start IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor.

The following list describs the high-level steps involved in setting up for monitoring of non-z/OS FTP servers:

  1. Enable the FTP server to write transfer activities to a log file or SNMP trap.
  2. Enable read access to the FTP server log file for the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor FTP agent.
  3. Install and configure the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor FTP agent on the computer where the FTP server is located and start the agent.
Note: If the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor FTP agent fails to start, consult the FTP agent log file in the FTPAgentInstallDir/log folder to isolate the cause of the problem. The log file name begins with SCCFTPAgent_.
  4. Define the FTP server in IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor by providing relevant details about the server and the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor FTP agent. If necessary, provide the log formats.
  5. To test whether IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor is collecting information from the FTP server, use IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor to view the FTP server activity.
