Creating and setting up database

The IBM® Sterling Control Center Monitor engine uses DB2®, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server production database to store statistics and other information collected from monitored servers.

IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor supports the following database server types:
  • DB2 on Linux®, UNIX, and Microsoft Windows
  • DB2 on z/OS®
  • Oracle on UNIX, and Microsoft Windows
  • Microsoft SQL Server on Microsoft Windows servers

IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor uses the following database:
  • Production database - To store activities and configuration information for monitored servers.
  • CAUTION:
    A database with partitioned IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor tables is the preferred database setup for performance reasons.
Keep the following general requirements in mind when choosing and creating IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor database:
  • You must use the same database server type for all IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor database.
  • The database must be created on a database server that the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor engine can communicate with.
Before you install IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor, complete the following high-level tasks to create and setup database for use with IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor:
  1. Review all topics related to database requirements and configuration and create database/schema for IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor with the required settings.
    Tip: Use the production, database worksheet to record database information.
  2. After you create the required database, provide the database server details such as host, port, user ID, password, and database name during the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor installation and configuration process. IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor creates the required tables, views, and indexes during the installation and configuration process.
  3. Ensure IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor database users are given the required permissions to access the created database.
Important: The database server should be used by IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor only and should not be shared with other applications.
