Performing guided node discovery

To get a list of the Sterling Connect:Direct® nodes a monitored server communicates with you can find those nodes automatically with the guided node discovery feature.

Note: This is helpful only for Connect:Direct servers that do not have an Agent. Connect:Direct servers with an agent are dynamically discovered by Control Center and do not need to be manually added to it to be monitored.

To perform guided node discovery, you add servers to an explorer list, enable them for discovery, and run discovery. IBM® Sterling Control Center Monitor contacts each server to gather information. Then, IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor scans the server network map and statistics records to discover the unique servers that it communicates with. Those servers are displayed in a discovery list.

This feature is especially helpful when you are identifying all of the Sterling Connect:Direct servers to monitor and manage in a large-scale server environment. Your IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor license limits the number of managed servers allowed. If your IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor license permits it, you can also add the discovered servers to the list of managed servers.
