Estimation tools

Several tools are provided to assist you in estimating a suitable platform configuration to run the IBM® Sterling Control Center Monitor engine. These tools collect information for calculating an appropriate database size, the number of processors (cores) you need, and the size of the database needed for your platform configuration.

The IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor engine performance is expressed in events per second. The more events per second that the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor engine must handle, the more processing power required. The tools are described in the following table:

Hardware sizing of your IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor environment is critical to proper functioning of the software. Clients should size their environment when they are planning for implementation, and at times when your environment changes. To help clients with proper sizing, you can request a Sizing Study from your IBM® Professional Services Project Manager or an IBM Sales Executive. You are going to be provided a Sizing Questionnaire that you complete with details about intended processing volumes in your environment. IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor documentation can help you make decisions and find information for the Questionnaire. If you intend to monitor Sterling Connect:Direct®, you can use the Event Counter Utility that is installed with IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor, to help collect some event statistics. If you have questions or issues filling out the Sizing Questionnaire, you can contact your IBM® Professional Services Project Manager or an IBM Sales Executive. After you complete the Questionnaire, return it back to your IBM® Professional Services Project Manager or an IBM Sales Executive for further analysis in the Sizing Study. IBM is going to send back a sizing recommendations document to help you with your planning.

Event processor worksheets
Assists you in calculating your estimated IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor events per second. This value is needed to estimate the number of processors (cores) needed to run the IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor engine and the database size. The worksheets also assists you in calculating your estimated IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor events per day. This value is needed to estimate an appropriate database size for your IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor implementation.
Database sizing worksheet
Assists you in properly sizing the database for your IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor implementation.
Heap sizing worksheet
Assists you in determining the heap size required for your IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor implementation.
Event counter utility
Assists you in completing the event processor worksheets to estimate average and peak number of events and processes for Sterling Connect:Direct servers in your environment.
