Exporting assets from IBM Control Center Monitor Cognos instance

Before you begin

Before exporting Cognos assets from you IBM® Control Center Monitor instance, consider the following:

Backing Up Your Current IBM Control Center Monitor Cognos

You need a Cognos entire content store backup if you want to set up your own standalone Cognos instance.
  • When you attempt to install IBM Control Center Monitor 6.2, your existing IBM Control Center Monitor Cognos instance will be removed.
  • If you are upgrading from 6.1.3 ifix02+, you will automatically have a Cognos content store backup from which you will be able to migrate your custom reports and widgets to your own standalone copy of Cognos.
  • If you are upgrading from a IBM Control Center Monitor version other than 6.1.3 ifix02, first upgrade to 6.1.3 ifix02+ and then, perform steps to migrate your Cognos configuration to a standalone copy of Cognos.

For this, see the Manually Run Content Store Backup steps.

If you install IBM Control Center Monitor 6.2 without first backing up and migrating your Cognos content store from IBM Control Center 6.1.3ifix02+ to a standalone Cognos, you will lose your Cognos assets, so it is important to complete these tasks and verify your standalone Cognos is working correctly before upgrading to IBM Sterling Control Center 6.2

IBM Control Center Monitor Cognos: My Content

If any user has saved any widgets or custom reports in the Cognos My Content folder, these items will not be in the backup used to migrate your IBM Control Center Monitor Cognos instance to your standalone Cognos instance. This is because the contents of the My Content folder is different for each user and the backup does not include user accounts. If you want to keep any items, for any user, from My Content, you will need to make a copy of the items to the Team Content folder, prior to running the migration scripts.

For example, assume user Bob has a custom report named myCustomReport in folder My Content. And user Sally has a custom report name sallyReport in his My Content folder. Bob and Sally both want to keep their custom reports, therefore Bob creates a new folder Team Content/Bob and copies his custom report from My Content/myCustomReport to Team Content/myCustomReport. Likewise, Sally creates a new folder Team Content/Sally and copies his custom report from My Content/sallyReport to Team Content/sallyReport. Then, when the entire content store backup is made, it will contain both Bob and Sally’s custom reports in the Team Content folder. When the standalone Cognos instance is ready, Bob and Sally can move their personal reports from Team Content back to their My Content.

Before IBM Control Center Monitor is installed, you need to have a good backup of your current Cognos’s Content Store. This backup will be used to migrate your Cognos assets to your standalone Cognos instance. If you installIBM Control Center Monitor 6.2 without a good Cognos content store backup, you will lose your Cognos assets, so it is important to get the backup before installing IBM Control Center Monitor 6.2.
