About alerts

An alert is an IBM® Sterling Control Center Monitor event that is generated and assigned a particular severity level when rule criteria are met and an action is performed. For example, an alert can inform you that a critical process failed, or that a server shutdown.

Any user with appropriate permissions can define rules that trigger alerts. The IBM Sterling Control Center Monitor web console is used to view and handle alerts.

The alerts monitors, which include the Active alerts list and the Handled alerts list, provide real-time display of alert data as it occurs. These alerts views are updated, based on the refresh-rate setting for the console, as new alerts occur and are handled. An alert is listed in one of the alerts monitors based on whether it is active or has already been viewed and designated as handled.
