Defining fields

Content fields are data sets (also known as name-value pairs) that contain information associated with each content item, such as the body text, author, date created, and so on.

The name of the field is a data identifier. On the Field Definitions panel, field names appear in the Name column. On a content set page, field names appear as column headers.

The value of the field is the relevant information associated with the content item. On a content set page, values appear beneath column headers. Each row of values represents an individual content item.

For example, if your content set consists of email messages, you might define the following fields:

From
The source of the content item
Message
The body of each content item
Subject
The subject of each content item
Categories
The name of the category to which the content item belongs

The fields that you choose to define depend on the elements that you expect IBM® Content Classification to analyze and act upon.
