Defining trigger expressions

A trigger is a constraint expression that determines the conditions that must be met to initiate the actions of the rule. Each rule has one trigger.

About this task

You define a trigger for a decision plan rule on the Trigger page of the New Rule or Edit Rule window.

Click the condition link on the Trigger page to access a list of predefined triggers and advanced submenus. You can also type or edit the trigger expression directly on the Trigger page.

To define a trigger:

Procedure

  1. On the New Rule or Edit Rule window, click the Trigger tab.
  2. Do one or more of the following tasks:
    Option Description
    Configure a predefined trigger Click the condition link, select a predefined trigger, and configure its settings.
    Create a custom trigger using advanced options Click the condition link and select Advanced to access a series of submenus in which you can select options and specify values to define your trigger.
    Manually enter a trigger expression Delete the condition link and enter the trigger expression directly on the Trigger page.
  3. After defining your trigger, click Validate to ensure that your trigger is written correctly. Then, continue building your rule by adding actions.
