Cannot connect to the web application server

You cannot connect to the web application server from the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool. The test connection to web application server fails.

Symptoms

The problem can manifest in the following ways:
  • On WebSphere® Application Server, the Cell field is not automatically populated.
  • The connection attempt fails when you take any of the following actions on the Connect to WebSphere Application Server task or the Connect to Oracle WebLogic Server task:
    • Click Test Connection.
    • Click Next to continue in the wizard.
    • Click Run in manual configuration and deployment mode.

Causes

The web application server connection can fail for any of the following reasons:
  • The web application server is not running.
  • The provided values for one or more of the following properties are incorrect or invalid:
    • Application server version
    • Profile
    • Administrator user name
    • Administrator password
    • SOAP connector port
    • Host name
    • Application server domain directory (Oracle WebLogic Server only)

Resolving the problem

Address any data input errors and test the connection again.
If you are deploying IBM Content Navigator on WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment environment, ensure that the following statements are true:
  • The value that you entered in the Profile field is a profile in the locally installed instance of WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment, and the locally instance of WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment is federated to the deployment manager.
  • The value that you entered in the SOAP connector port field is the SOAP connector address of the deployment manager.
  • The value that you entered in the Host name field is the host name or IP address of the deployment manager.

Additionally, if your deployment manager is on a remote system, ensure that the same version of WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment is installed on the deployment manager server and on the IBM Content Navigator server.

Tip: After you resolve the errors, to verify that the test connection can be established, you can use the following field as an indicator of a successful connection:
  • On IBM WebSphere Application Server, the Cell list is populated with a list of cells that are available in the specified profile.
  • On WebLogic Server, the Target name list is populated with a list of the targets that are available in the specified domain directory.

If you have taken all of the corrective actions above and you still cannot connect to the web application server, you can create a profile by using the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool command-line interface.
