Running the installation program

You can install IBM® Content Navigator on the server by running the installation program.

Before you begin

Before you install IBM Content Navigator:

Install the prerequisite software on the server where you plan to host IBM Content Navigator. For more information, see the Prerequisites for installing IBM Content Navigator topic.
Complete the Installation and configuration worksheets before you install IBM Content Navigator.
Review Getting IBM Content Navigator components up and running to ensure that you understand all the tasks that you must complete before users can access the IBM Content Navigator web client.

About this task

If you plan to deploy IBM Content Navigator on IBM WebSphere® Application Server Network Deployment, you do not need to install IBM Content Navigator on the deployment manager.

Important: If you plan to deploy IBM Content Navigator in a clustered environment, install the software on at least one server in the cluster. However, it is easier to achieve high availability if you install the IBM Content Navigator software on some or all of the servers in the cluster.

Installing on all the nodes in the cluster has the following benefits:

IBM Content Navigator configuration directory that you specify when you configure the IBM Content Navigator web application exists on all of the nodes in the cluster.
The IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool remains available from multiple locations if the original system fails.
An installed IBM Content Navigator instance remains available to apply upgrades or fixes if the original system fails.
The IBM Content Navigator shared libraries are installed in the correct locations without needing to be copied over from another node.

If you installed your web application server as a user other than the root user, you must use the same user account when you install IBM Content Navigator on AIX®, Linux®, or Linux for System z®. If you do not, the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool does not work properly.

Procedure

To install IBM Content Navigator:

Log on to the IBM Content Navigator server with the IBM Content Navigator installer account.

Start the installation program:

Operating system	Installation command
AIX	At a command prompt, change to the directory where you downloaded the product and enter: `./IBM_CONTENT_NAVIGATOR-x.x.x-AIX.bin`, where `x.x.x` is the product version, such as 26.0.0.
Linux	At a command prompt, change to the directory where you downloaded the product and enter: `./IBM_CONTENT_NAVIGATOR-x.x.x-LINUX.bin`, where `x.x.x` is the product version, such as 26.0.0.
Linux for System z	At a command prompt, change to the directory where you downloaded the product and enter: `./IBM_CONTENT_NAVIGATOR-x.x.x-ZLINUX.bin`, where `x.x.x` is the product version, such as 26.0.0.
Windows	Complete one of the following actions: At a command prompt, change to the directory where you downloaded the product: and enter: `IBM_CONTENT_NAVIGATOR-x.x.x-WIN.exe`, where `x.x.x` is the product version, such as 26.0.0. Go to the directory where you downloaded the product and double-click IBM_CONTENT_NAVIGATOR-`x.x.x`-WIN.exe, where `x.x.x` is the product version, such as 26.0.0.

Follow the instructions in the installation tool to complete the installation.

After you install IBM Content Navigator, you must:

Configure and deploy IBM Content Navigator, including:
1. Creating a configuration profile
2. Configuring the IBM Content Navigator web application
3. Updating your web application server for IBM Content Navigator components
4. Running the script to configure your database for IBM Content Navigator
5. Restarting the web application server where IBM Content Navigator is deployed
6. Verifying your IBM Content Navigator deployment
