Configuring log location and size
From the WebSphere® Application Server administrative console diagnostic trace panel, you can globally enable or disable trace logging, change log file location, size and retention, and modify the log entry format.
About this task
These settings apply to all applications that use Java standard logging. It is generally not necessary to change these settings when troubleshooting FileNet Collaboration Services. Depending on the load on your system and log level configured, you may wish to maximum file size and number of historical files, to ensure that log data is retained properly.
The SystemErr.log file contains error messages only. The SystemOut.log file contains information, warning, and error messages.
By default, the trace log is in WebSphere installation folder/AppServer/profiles/profile name/logs/server name/trace.log. For instance, /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/AppSrv01/logs/server1/trace.log is a typical path to the file in a typical UNIX installation.
To configure the log location and size:
Procedure
- Go to the logging configuration panel and click Diagnostic trace.
- Choose the Configuration or Runtime tab.
- Change log configuration as desired and click Apply.
