Configuring your database and data source

In previous releases of IBM Content Navigator, the database and data source configuration tasks were separate. When you upgrade your IBM Content Navigator deployment, you must run the Configure Your Database and Datasource task to ensure that the IBM Content Navigator web client can communicate with your IBM Content Navigator database.

Before you begin

Before you complete this task, ensure that the web application server where you want to deploy IBM Content Navigator is running.
Important: You must reconnect to your web application server from the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool. If you are running the Configuration and Deployment Tool as a wizard, you are prompted to complete this step. If you selected Advanced when you created your deployment profile, you must edit your profile to reconnect to the web application server:
  1. Click File > Edit Profile Properties.
  2. If the Configuration and Deployment Tool is not configured to save your passwords, enter the web application server administrator password.
  3. Click Test Connection and then click Finish.

About this task

When you run this task, the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool uses the information that you provide to complete the following tasks:
  • Create a data source connection in your web application server
  • Update the script that you can run to populate the IBM Content Navigator database on your database instance
  • Run the script to update the IBM Content Navigator database on your database instance

If you have multiple deployments of IBM Content Navigator in your environment, you must complete this task for each deployment.

Procedure

To configure your database and data source:

  1. Open the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool and select Modify an existing deployment profile.
  2. Select the profile that you want to rebuild and click Open.
  3. Open the following task in your configuration profile: Configure Your Database and Datasource.
  4. Complete the task by using the values that you entered in the data source configuration worksheet for your environment:
  5. Click Finish to run the task.

If you are manually running the tasks in the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool, click Run Task.

What to do next

If you do not run the script to update the database from the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool, you must run the script from your database after you deploy the web application.
