Accessibility features of IBM Content Navigator
IBM Content Navigator includes features that make it more accessible for people with disabilities.

For a list of the supported versions of Mozilla Firefox, refer to the hardware and software requirements for the version of IBM Content Navigator that you are running.
- Internet Explorer 11
Additionally, you must ensure that you are running a supported version of JAWS Screen Reader. For any questions on how to use JAWS, refer to the documentation for the version of JAWS that you are running.
Virtual PC cursor
You can use IBM Content Navigator with JAWS Virtual PC Cursor to read the contents of a web page without changing focus. However, if you want to use the features of the web client, you must turn off Virtual PC Cursor. If you try to use the features of the web client without turning off Virtual PC Cursor, you might encounter issues.
The exception to this rule is the integrated help documentation. If you access the documentation from the IBM Content Navigator web client, it is recommended that you turn on JAWS Virtual PC Cursor. Virtual PC Cursor provides a better navigation and reading experience when you use the version of IBM Documentation that is deployed with IBM Content Navigator.
Keyboard input and navigation
The following features are available for keyboard input and navigation:
- Keyboard input
- You can use the keyboard instead of a mouse to operate the web client. To use any button on the
user interface, move to the button and press Enter.
To enter data, move to the input field and enter your data. To exit the field, press Enter or Tab.
- Keyboard focus
- The position of the keyboard focus is outlined or highlighted to indicate which area of the window is active and where your keystrokes have an effect.
- Keyboard navigation
- You can use the following keys to move around the major elements of a page, view, or specialized selection:
- Tab
- Shift+Tab
- Arrow keys
For certain elements, such as tree views or the calendar date picker, you can also use the Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys.
You can use JAWS to skip sections of content by going to landmark regions on the page. To open a dialog box that displays the list of landmarks, press Insert+Ctrl+R or Insert+F7.
- Click focus and tab focus
- To navigate efficiently by using the keyboard, it is important to understand the distinction
between click focus and tab focus. If you use only the mouse to navigate, tab focus is unimportant;
however, tab focus is essential to using keyboard shortcuts.
- Tab focus is indicated by the dotted square around an item. You can change tab focus by using
the tab and arrow keys, or by clicking an item with the mouse.
- When you navigate by using the Tab key, you move the tab focus sequentially from one item to the next, and the click focus does not change. At the end of a section of the page, the Tab key moves to the first item in the next section.
- When you use the arrow keys, you move the tab focus and the click focus from one item to the next within the same screen section.
- Click focus is indicated by the colored highlighting surrounding an item. You can change click focus by clicking an item with the mouse, by using the arrow keys, or by moving the tab focus to an item and pressing Enter.
- Tab focus is indicated by the dotted square around an item. You can change tab focus by using
the tab and arrow keys, or by clicking an item with the mouse.
- Silent installation
- For an accessible version of the installation, you must use the silent installation feature.
Keyboard shortcut keys
You can use the keyboard to access all of the functions of the IBM Content Navigator web client.In general, keyboard access conforms to standard Microsoft Windows guidelines.
- Hover help
- Use the Tab key to move to an input field or item that has hover help. Then, press Ctrl+F1 to start the hover help.
- Access keys, tabbing, and tables
- Access keys are provided for buttons and menu items.

- To move between the pages of a document:
- Go to the next page by pressing Page Down.
- Go to the previous page by pressing Page Up.
- Combination boxes
- Use the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys to move to an item. Then, press Enter to select the item.
- Menus
- You can navigate menus by using the following keys:

- In a tree, you can navigate by typing a letter to move to the first item that starts with that
letter. To move to the next word that starts with that letter, type the letter again. For example,
to move to the third item that begins with the letter "D", type D three times. You can navigate tree views by using the following keys:

- To select items in a list box, use the Up and Down Arrow keys to move between items. Press Enter
to select an item.
If a list box supports multiple item select, hold down the Shift key while pressing the Up Arrow key or the Down Arrow key.
- To select a check box, use the arrow keys to move between items. Press Space to toggle a check box on or off.
- To select a radio button, use the arrow keys to move between items. When you move to an item, it is automatically selected. Press Tab to leave the radio button with the current selection.
- To select items in a list box, use the Up and Down Arrow keys to move between items. Press Enter
to select an item.
- Calendar date picker
- You can navigate calendar date pickers by using the following keys:

- To add a folder to the selected folders list, with the tab focus and click focus on a folder in the folder tree view, press Enter.

Navigating pop-up windows
At various times, IBM Content Navigator displays information or error messages in a pop-up window. This section explains how to navigate each type of window using the keyboard, and other accessibility information.| Pop-up window type | Keyboard options |

Features for accessible display
The web client has the following features that enhance the user interface and improve accessibility for users with low vision. These enhancements include support for high-contrast settings and customizable font properties.- High-contrast mode
- On the Windows operating system, the client supports the high-contrast mode option that is provided by the operating system. This feature supports a higher contrast between background and foreground colors.
- Font settings
- On the Windows operating system, the client inherits
the system settings that you specify for the color, size, and font for the text in menus and dialog
windows.
Alternatively, you can use your web browser to zoom in or out on the text in the web client. However, you should not exceed 200% zoom.
Restriction: You cannot use the browser font settings or the Microsoft Internet Explorer Text size option to change the text display in the web client. - Non-dependence on color
- You do not need to distinguish between colors to use any function of this product.
Compatibility with assistive technologies
The web client is compatible with the JAWS screen reader. The web client has the properties that are required for JAWS to make on-screen information available to visually impaired users.You can start the JAWS screen reader from your Windows Start menu or by using the java command.
