You can search for items in multiple classes
in a selected repository. Searching for content in multiple classes
is useful if you do your work in more than one parent class in a repository,
and you want to search for content in those classes.
About this task
For example, in Repository A, you might be working with
content in three classes:
- You store content in the Email class.
- You edit policy documents in the Policies class.
- You create forms in the Forms class.
You need documents in each of these classes for
your current project, and you are searching each class for the files
that you need.
To make the search easier, instead of searching
each class individually by using three separate searches, you create
a single search to find documents in all of these classes in Repository
A.
To enable searching for multiple classes in your selected
repository, in your search criteria, you must enable the option to
search multiple classes.
Procedure
To search for content in multiple classes:
- Create a search and select your repository or open an existing
search that you want to modify to search multiple classes.
- In the Search Criteria section,
click the Class drop-down list.
- Add the classes that you want to search to the Selected
Classes list.
If you want to include subclasses
of a class, you must add each subclass to the Selected
Classes list.
For example, if you select
a parent class but you do not select any subclasses, the search applies
to the parent class only.
- Click Search in multiple classes.
- For 3.0.10 and later, click Include all properties if you want to
list all the properties of all the selected classes in the Search
Criteria.
- Click OK to save the class selection.
- If you want to remove a class, click the Class link
next to Search Criteria and select the classes
that you want to remove from the search criteria.
At
least one class must remain selected.
-
Configure your search by editing the properties as needed.
You cannot search properties that are not common among the selected classes. The properties
that are available in the properties list show only the properties that are available and are common
among the classes.
For
3.0.10 and later, you can search properties that are not common among the selected classes if you
clicked Include all properties. For Content Cortex, this option is for a single
search only.
