To create the IBM Content Navigator web application, you must use
the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool. You can create
multiple web applications from a single installation of IBM Content Navigator.
Before you begin
Before you create a configuration profile
- Ensure that the web application server where you want to deploy IBM Content Navigator is running.
- Collect information about your web application server. Refer to the appropriate worksheet for
your web application server:
- For Oracle Database sites only: Copy the Oracle JDBC driver from the
IBM Content Manager Enterprise
Edition system and set the ORACLE_JDBC_DRIVER_PATH environment
variable to the full path of the Oracle JDBC driver.
About this task
Each web application is stored as a configuration profile. After you create a configuration
profile, you can reuse the profile or update it if you change your environment. For example, you
might need to update your configuration profile if you:
- Want to update any of the settings for your web application
- Want to rebuild or redeploy the web application
- Want to configure the web application to work with other repository types
- Install a new version of Content Manager, Content Engine, or Process Engine
When you create a configuration profile, you specify information about:
- The type of web application server that you plan to deploy IBM Content Navigator to
- The types of repositories that you plan to use the deployed web application to connect to
The configuration tasks that you must complete depending on the web application server and the
types of repositories that you want to connect to from the
IBM Content Navigator web client.
Tip: If the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool is separated from your web
application server by a wide area network (WAN), there might be a delay when populating information
about your web application server in the tool. You can minimize this delay by running the tool on
the same local area network (LAN) as the web application server.
Procedure
To create a configuration profile:
-
Open the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and Deployment Tool.
The Configuration and Deployment Tool is in the configure subdirectory of
the IBM Content Navigator installation directory, by default:
| Operating system |
Default location |
| AIX |
/opt/IBM/ECMClient/configure/configmgr |
| Linux® |
/opt/IBM/ECMClient/configure/configmgr |
| Linux for System z® |
/opt/IBM/ECMClient/configure/configmgr |
| Windows |
C:\Program Files\IBM\ECMClient\configure\configmgr.bat |
-
If you want to enable the IBM Content Navigator Configuration and
Deployment Tool to save passwords, click and select Save all passwords to file when saving a task or
profile. Click OK. If you do not select this checkbox, your
passwords are not saved and you must enter your passwords in clear text when you run the task
When you select this option, your passwords are encrypted.
Important: The
encryption method that is used in the
IBM Content Navigator Configuration
and Deployment Tool might not comply with Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140.
To
comply with FIPS 140, set the operating system-level access permissions on the XML configuration
files that are generated by the tool to allow only the administrator who is configuring and
deploying IBM Content Navigator to read or write to the
file.
-
Select .
- Enter the following profile information. When you complete all of your profile
information, click Next.
- Specify a profile name.
- Enter the directory location for your configuration.
- Select either WebSphere Application Server or Oracle WebLogic
Server as the application server type.
The profile name that you specify is the name of the configuration profile. When you need to
reuse or update your configuration, you can select this profile from the list of profiles on your
IBM Content Navigator server.
Remember: The web application server that you select determines the types of
applications that you can configure and the types of repositories that you can connect to:
| Web application server |
Available configuration options |
| WebSphere Application Server |
You can configure the following repository connections in IBM Content Navigator:
- IBM Content Manager Enterprise
Edition
- IBM Content Manager OnDemand
- IBM Content Cortex
- Box
Alternatively, you can configure an IBM Content Navigator
application that does not connect to any repository.
|
| Oracle WebLogic Server |
You can configure the following repository connections in IBM Content Navigator:
- IBM Content Manager OnDemand
- IBM Content Cortex
- Box
Alternatively, you can configure an IBM Content Navigator
application that does not connect to any repository.

-
Complete the task to connect to your web application server by using the values that you
entered in the worksheet for your environment:
Tip: You can use the Test Connection button to ensure that you
entered the information about your web application server correctly. When the test connection is successful on WebSphere Application
Server in GUI mode, the cell name or target name is retrieved and displayed in the dropdown list, which validates the connection. Additionally, the server, node, and cluster names are loaded and become available in subsequent tasks, such as the Configure JDBC Driver task and the Deploy the Web Application task.
-
Click Next to connect to your web application server.
-
Select the types of applications that you want to configure:
- IBM Content Navigator connecting to:
- IBM Content Manager
- IBM Content Manager OnDemand
- IBM Content Cortex
- No Repository
-
Select additional services to configure:
- If you want to run background or asynchronous tasks in IBM Content Navigator, select the Task Manager service option.
- If you want to run IBM Content Navigator Content Cortex for Microsoft Office application, select the IBM Content Cortex for Microsoft Office option.
Click Next to continue.
-
Specify how you want to create your installation profile:
- Select the JDBC driver type and click Next.
- Select the Directory service provider type, (for Content Cortex repository only) and the WebSphere Application
Server LDAP repository type. Then, click Next.
- Enter the Deployment type, (for WebSphere Application
Server only), and click Finish.
-
Click Next to proceed to the next configuration task or click
Close to save your profile until you are ready to complete the configuration
tasks.
