Locking work items

Process Tracker must lock a work item before you can make any changes. You can explicitly lock the work at selected steps, or Process Tracker prompts you to do so when necessary. When you lock a step, Process Tracker locks all of the underlying work items. A step that is assigned to multiple participants has multiple work items. You can also lock an individual work item.

About this task

If Process Tracker fails to lock some work items because other users or the system have them locked, it displays a list of work items that are already locked. You can choose to lock the remaining work items and continue your work, or to not lock any of them. You cannot override a lock by another user.

Procedure

  • To manually lock work items at selected active steps:
    1. Select one or more active steps on the workflow map.
    2. Click Lock Selected Steps on the toolbar.
If some work items cannot be locked, Process Tracker displays a list of those work items.
    3. To cancel the entire request, click Cancel.
    4. To continue locking the available work items, click OK.
  • To lock an individual work item in an active step:
    1. Select the step on the workflow map.
    2. In the History pane on the Step History tab, right-click the item you want to lock, then choose Lock from the menu.
  • In an active step with multiple work items, you can lock a single work item without locking the entire step.
