Checking content consistency with sweeps

Use a job sweep to check the consistency of your content and help maintain the integrity of your storage areas.

You can use the Consistency Check job sweep to validate storage area metadata by detecting inconsistencies between the metadata in the object store database and files in associated storage areas. See Validation errors for information about the kinds of inconsistencies that are detected.

If the object store uses a fixed storage area, the Consistency Check job sweep validates the existence of the documents that are stored in the fixed storage area. If the documents are not federated, the sweep also compares the size of the document on the fixed device with the size recorded for the object in the object store.

You might want to validate your storage area content in circumstances such as the following examples:

  • After restoring a storage area from backup media.
  • After restoring an object store (including the database and file storage areas) from backup media.
  • If users are unable to view the content of a document when the content is stored in a file storage area, even when they have view-content permissions on the document.
  • After moving a file storage area to another location.

The criteria for what is checked by the Consistency Check job is defined by the target class (such as Document) that you specify, and by any additional conditions that you configure as filter expressions.
