Preparing the Microsoft SQL Server client

Ensure that the Microsoft SQL Server client is in the correct location for communication with the Case Analyzer SSAS Connector.

About this task

The Case Analyzer SSAS Connector is used to access Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) to perform online analytical processing (OLAP) operations on Case Analyzer reporting. The preferred location for the installation of the Case Analyzer SSAS Connector is on the same machine as the Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services server and client. If the Case Analyzer SSAS Connector is installed on a machine that is remote from the Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services server, the Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services client must be installed on the same Windows based machine as the Case Analyzer SSAS Connector.

Procedure

To install Microsoft SQL Server client on the Case Analyzer SSAS Connector server:

  1. Install the Microsoft SQL Server client software:
    1. Log on to the Case Analyzer SSAS Connector server with an account that has local administrator privileges.
    2. Install the Microsoft SQL Server software by specifying the following options:
      1. In the Feature Selection window, select the following client components:
        • Client Tools Connectivity
        • Client Tools Backward Compatibility
        • Client Tools SDK
        • Management Tools - Basic (To include Management Tools - Complete)
        • SQL Client Connectivity SDK
      2. Accept the defaults for the rest of the installation.
  2. Verify the connection between the Microsoft SQL Server client installation and the database computer using either of the following methods:
    • At a command prompt type:

      sqlcmd -E -S servername [\ instance_name ]

    • Use Microsoft SQL Server Management Tools to test the connection to the Analysis Server.

    If the connection fails, resolve the problem before you proceed.
