You can create a Cognos Business Intelligence report against a
background search table by using a
Cognos
dynamic cube. The
cube is created with
Cognos
Cube Designer.
Procedure
To create a report by using a cube:
-
Generating search results with a background search sweep. Create and run a background search from the
administration console.
Example: Install the Content Cortex 5.2.1 Reporting AddOn
add-on and run the Document Usage By User report from the administration console. For
information about installing add-ons, see Installing an add-on feature to an object store.
Here is the background search expression for that
report:
SELECT CmRpt::UserRecord(Creator) AS CmRptUserRecord,
COUNT(Id) AS CmRptObjectCount,
SUM(ContentSize) AS CmRptContentSize,
MIN(DateCreated) AS CmRptDateFirstCreated,
MAX(DateCreated) as CmRptDateLastCreated
FROM Document
GROUP BY CmRptUserRecord
This report populates a user record dimension table from the Java Script code that is in the
CmRpt::UserRecord() custom search function definition handler.
-
Finding table and column names. In the object store database, get the following
information:
- The name of the result table for your background search
- The column names of the table
-
Creating a data source. Create a
Cognos
data source to access your search result data.
-
Publishing a cube. Use
Cognos
Cube
Designer connect to publish a cube.
-
Create a report from the cube by using
Cognos
Workspace
Advanced (although other reporting tools can be used as well):
-
From local connection, in the upper right corner, select Launch Cognos Workspace
Advanced.
-
In the window that starts, navigate to the Cognos folder (for example, My
Folder) and click the name of your package. The
Cognos
Workspace Advanced window opens.
-
Click Create New, select a type (for example,
Chart), and click OK.
-
Select the type of chart in the next window. For example, take the column default.
-
In the right pane of the
Cognos
Workspace Advanced
window, expand down to the fact table (for example,
CmRptDocumentUsageByUser).
-
Drag the measure (for example, CmRptObjectCount) to the left pane chart
under Default measure (y-axis).
-
In the right pane, also drag the dimension table to the left pane chart under
Default measure (x-axis).
