Using Navigator Core Agent and Workspace

The Navigator Core Agent provides a conversational interface for managing documents, folders, and content in IBM® Content Navigator.

Before you begin

The Content Cortex AI Services plug-in must be enabled in your Content Navigator environment and for the desktop to access the Navigator Core Agent through the Ask AI agents feature. For more information, see Enabling the Content Cortex AI Services plug-in.

About this task

You can use natural language to interact with content and perform content management tasks without using traditional interfaces. The agent can also help you organize documents into workspaces—focused collections that provide a dedicated environment for reviewing, analyzing, and managing documents identified through your conversations.

The Navigator Core Agent supports the following content management operations:

  • Search for documents by name, content, or folder location
  • Create, manage, and navigate folder structures
  • View and update document properties and metadata
  • Classify documents and get classification recommendations
  • Build workspaces to organize documents for review and analysis
  • Explore available document classes and their properties

Use the Navigator Core Agent when you need to search for specific documents, organize them into folders, update properties, or build workspaces for focused review and analysis.

Chat history is persisted in the object store and is specific to each object store. When you select an object store, the chat history for that object store is loaded, allowing you to resume previous conversations. Each object store maintains its own separate chat history, and conversations from one object store are not visible when you work with a different object store.

Procedure

  1. From the IBM Content Navigator login page, log in by using your credentials.
Note: Use only HTTPS connection to access IBM Content Navigator when AI plug-ins are installed.
  2. From the desktop navigation menu, click Ask AI agents.
The AI agent interface opens with the Navigator Core Agent as the default agent.
  3. Select an object store from the repository selector.
When you select an object store, the chat history for that specific object store is loaded.
  4. Choose how to start your conversation:
    • Click New chat to start a fresh conversation. The Navigator Core Agent home screen displays, showing available capabilities and suggested prompts.
    • Click Chat history to view and resume previous conversations for the selected object store. Select a chat from the list to continue where you left off.
  5. Enter your request or question in the chat input field.
You can use natural language to describe what you need. The Navigator Core Agent understands context from your conversation and can perform multiple related actions in sequence. When you start a new chat, the home screen displays Welcome Cards with Sample Prompts that suggest what you can ask. You can click a sample prompt to use it, or type your own request.
  6. Press Enter or click the submit button to send your request.
The Navigator Core Agent processes your request and provides results or performs the requested actions.
  7. Review the results.
The agent provides results based on your request. When you search for documents, the agent displays them in a table within the chat conversation.
  8. Optional: Click Work with documents in Workspace to work with a specific document selection in a workspace.
When the agent displays a list of documents in the chat conversation, you can open those documents in a workspace for focused review and analysis. For information about operations that you can perform in the workspace, see Working with documents in Workspace.
To work with content across the entire repository, switch to Ask Your Repository mode using the mode selector. This mode allows you to ask questions and perform semantic searches across all repository content without first narrowing down to a specific document selection. This option requires IBM Content Assistant to be enabled. For more information, see Working with Ask your repository mode.

Results

You can manage documents, update metadata, organize folders, and perform repository management tasks through natural language conversations. The Navigator Core Agent provides persistent chat history so that you can resume conversations and maintain context across sessions within each object store.
