Caching content
You can create and configure content cache areas to expedite
access to the document content of any geographically remote or slow-to-access
storage areas.
Content cache areas
A content cache area contains frequently accessed document content that was duplicated from the original content that resides in storage areas. Typically, a cache delivers content to users who are in the same local area network (LAN) as the cache. The purpose of a cache is to expedite access to the document content of any geographically remote or slow-to-access storage areas.
Creating a content cache area
Use the Create a Content Cache Area wizard to create a content cache area. A single content cache area can be shared among all servers in the domain, or each server can reference its own content cache area. In either case, a server can reference only one content cache area for its caching.
Configuring a content cache area
Content cache areas can be shared among sites, virtual servers, or individual servers. Sharing cache areas among geographically close servers avoids latency delays that could affect the content retrieval performance.
Assigning a content cache area
After you create content cache areas, you can associate the content cache area to sites, virtual servers, or server instances. Usually you assign the content cache area to a site, but you can also assign the content cache area to a virtual server or server instance.
Viewing content cache area status
The administration console identifies the status of individual content cache areas. Each content cache area can be open or closed.
Changing content cache area status
Each content cache area status is either open (available for content caching) or closed (unavailable for content caching). You can also set the status to clearing (removing all content cache elements). After the clearing is complete, the content cache area returns to its previous status.
Viewing content cache area use
You can view content cache area activity statistics through its statistics sheet.
Deleting a content cache area
Deleting a content cache area does not delete the directory structure from the cache directory. You can delete the contents of the directory manually to clear the folder.
