About deleting documents

You can delete a document only if you have delete permission for that document. This permission is included in the Full Control security level that members of object store administrative groups receive. Delete permission is not included in the default View Content/View Properties permission level for the users and groups that are added to the object store by using the Object Store wizard.

When you delete a document, you can choose to delete a single version of the document, or you can choose to delete the version series of the document.

Deleting is not the same as unfiling. Deletion leads to the permanent removal of one or more document versions from an object store.

When you delete a single version, the following items are removed from the object store:

  • The single version; other versions are not deleted.
  • All references to that document version.
  • All content elements for that document version.
  • Any annotations and annotation content in that document version.

When you delete a version series, the following items are removed from the object store:

  • All document objects for all versions.
  • All references to the document in the object store folders.
  • All content elements for all document versions.
  • Any annotations and annotation content in those document versions.
Important: You must have permission to delete all the versions in the series; otherwise, the entire operation fails and no versions are deleted.

Deleting document content that is stored in a file storage area is carried out according to the delete method setting for that file storage area.
