Compatability with earlier Content Cortex releases

If you used fixed content retention in a prior release of Content Cortex, you can operate temporarily in legacy mode and transition to the new retention scheme over time.

Temporarily operating in legacy mode

After upgrading IBM® Content Cortex, all preexisting fixed storage areas operate in legacy mode. Consider legacy mode a temporary operating mode to use as you transition to the new retention scheme.

Legacy mode uses the following guidelines to apply a retention setting to an object:
  • When you check a new object into a preexisting fixed storage area, and the conditions below are true, the retention period of the fixed storage area is applied to the object:
    • A retention setting for the object is not explicitly set.
    • A default retention setting is not defined for the object class.

Transitioning out of legacy mode

To transition a fixed storage area out of legacy retention mode, update the class definition of the objects within the fixed storage area to include a retention period.
Important: After upgrading IBM Content Cortex, you cannot create a fixed storage area that operates in legacy mode. You can create fixed storage areas only under the new retention scheme that uses either aligned or unaligned storage mode for the fixed content device.
