IBM Spectrum Protect fixed content device

Before you can create a Content Platform Engine object to represent an IBM Spectrum Protect fixed content device, you must configure the device, and the device must be accessible to the Content Platform Engine network.

Before you begin

If you want the IBM Spectrum Protect server to enforce retention on object content, set the Archive Protection Flag property on the IBM Spectrum Protect fixed content device.

Depending on the version of your IBM Spectrum Protect client and server, you might need to configure SSL for communication between the IBM Spectrum Protect client and the IBM Spectrum Protect server. For more information, see IBM Spectrum Protect security updates External link opens a new window or tab.

For detailed instructions on setting up the SSL communication, see Configuring the client to connect to a storage agent by using SSL External link opens a new window or tab.

Procedure

To create a connection from IBM Content Cortex to the IBM Spectrum Protect fixed content device.

  1. Create a file share that all the Content Platform Engine servers in your IBM Content Cortex domain can write to. This file share is used to store IBM Spectrum Protect configuration files and corresponds to the Configuration Files Share property on the IBM Spectrum Protect fixed content device.
  2. Create a client node and password on the IBM Spectrum Protect server to connect toIBM Content Cortex.
The client node and password correspond to the Node Name and Password properties on the IBM Spectrum Protect fixed content device.
  3. Update the MAXSESSIONS property on the IBM Spectrum Protect server to ensure that it is large enough to handle the expected load from Content Cortex. The FCP Pool Max In Use property on the IBM Spectrum Protect fixed content device is defined once for each Content Platform Engine server instance. So the FCP Pool Max In Use value multiplied by the number of Content Platform Engine servers should not exceed the MAXSESSIONS property on the IBM Spectrum Protect server.
  4. Configure the management classes and associated storage pools on the IBM Spectrum Protect server for use by the Content Cortex system. IBM Spectrum Protect management classes are the mechanism used to enforce a retention policy on the IBM Spectrum Protect server. When creating a fixed storage area associated to an IBM Spectrum Protect fixed content device, you select the IBM Spectrum Protect management class corresponding to the retention policy you want to use for documents stored in this storage area. If you are using Content Cortex non-aligned retention, you must select an IBM Spectrum Protect management class that does not enforce a retention policy on the IBM Spectrum Protect server.
  5. If you are storing content on tape on the IBM Spectrum Protect server, create a disk storage pool with an appropriate migration policy to the tape device.
Configure your IBM Spectrum Protect client node to use this disk pool as a primary storage pool. Adjust the tape-related IBM Spectrum Protect server properties as described in IBM Spectrum Protect magnetic tape support.
