(Optional) Configuring the default multi-document query mode for a desktop

As an administrator, you can set the default multi-document query mode for a desktop. This setting determines how Content Assistant processes queries when users ask questions about multiple documents.

About this task

The default multi-document query mode setting applies to all users of the desktop. However, users can override this setting by selecting their preferred mode in the Content Assistant settings panel.

Three query modes are available:

  • Precision Mode - Provides highly accurate answers by using vector search on indexed documents. Documents must be indexed to use this mode.
  • Extended Precision Mode - Provides comprehensive answers by using vector search with extended context. Documents must be indexed to use this mode.
  • Full Content Mode - Processes the complete content of documents, including both indexed and unindexed documents. This mode works with any document in the selection.

Procedure

  1. Log in to IBM® Content Navigator as an administrator and go to the administration console.
Note: Use only HTTPS connection to access the IBM Content Navigator when the Content Assistant plugin is installed.
  2. From the navigation menu, click Plug-ins.
  3. Select the IBM Content Assistant plug-in from the list.
  4. In the Available desktops section, select the desktop for which you want to configure the default multi-document query mode.
The list shows all desktops that have the Content Assistant plug-in enabled.
  5. In the Default multi-document query mode section, select one of the following options:
    • Precision Mode - Select this option to provide highly accurate answers based on indexed document content.
    • Extended Precision Mode - Select this option to provide comprehensive answers with extended context from indexed documents.
    • Full Content Mode - Select this option to process complete document content, including both indexed and unindexed documents.
Important: If you select Precision Mode or Extended Precision Mode, users can query only the documents that are indexed. When users attempt to query unindexed documents in these modes, they receive a message that indicates that the selected documents must be indexed.
  6. Click Save and Close.

Results

The default multi-document query mode is configured for the selected desktop. You can repeat this procedure to configure the default query mode for other desktops. Users can override the desktop default by selecting their preferred mode in the Content Assistant settings panel.
