Restoring the vector index for document content

You can restore the vector index for the document content in your object store.

About this task

After you create a document class subscription for vector indexing, the Content Assistant creates a vector index for each new document that is added to the object store that belongs to the subscribed document class. The Content Assistant stores only the vector index, which contains extracted text excerpts and the vector embeddings for the document. However, it does not store the original document or any related metadata.

When you disable indexing for an object store, the existing vector index is deactivated. The existing index is saved for 30 days and can be restored, if necessary. If you wish to restore the vector database for your environment, reach IBM Support.
Note: The vector database restore operation can only restore a vector index for documents in your environment. It cannot be used to restore the original documents or their metadata.
