Disabling vector indexing for an object store

You need to disable vector indexing for an object store when you perform certain tasks that are related to the Content Assistant service.

About this task

You need to disable vector indexing for an object store when you plan to do any of the following operations:
  • Change the embedding model for your object store.
  • Disable the existing index and create a new index by reindexing the document content in your object store.
  • When you need to remove a document that belongs to a document class which is subscribed for vector indexing.
  • Remove the Content Assistant service from your environment.
When you disable indexing for an object store, the existing index is deactivated. The existing index is saved for 30 days and can be restored, if necessary. For more information, see the topic Restoring the vector index for document content.

Procedure

Follow the steps to disable the Content Assistant indexing for an object store:

  1. In the Administration Console for Content Platform Engine (ACCE), go to the object store where you want to modify the index status.
  2. In the left-pane, go to Search.
  3. Click New Object Store Search.
  4. In Simple View, specify the Class as Gen AI Configuration and click Run.
The search results display a single object.
  5. In the Properties tab, set the Gen AI Index Status as Inactive for the selected object and click Save.

After you save the configuration object, the Content Assistant change pre-processors are disabled for your object store. The Content Assistant vector index for your object store is preserved for 30 days after your index is Inactive. To reactivate the index, contact IBM Support.
