Cloning a parameter file

The SPAdmin tool introduces a new line command, CL to perform the cloning process. The CL line command can be used on the Local record as long as there are no outstanding unsaved updates to the Secure Parameter file. The CL line command can also be used on a Remote record to quickly replicate that record.

CAUTION:
It is recommended that you take a backup of the Secure Parameter and Secure Access files before you attempt the cloning process. The SPAdmin tool takes all precautions to protect your data but a backup provides an extra security step to prevent lost of data.

The following section provides information on cloning process for different record types.

Alias Record Clone

An Alias Record cannot be cloned and the SPAdmin tool will issue an appropriate error if the CL line command is attempted for a record type of A.

Remote Record Clone

A remote record clone retains the settings from the original record and allows for entry of a new node name. This allows for a quick and easy replication of records.

Local Record Clone

A local record clone turns the local record into a remote record, retaining all the settings from the original local and allow for entry of a new node name. This allows for quick and easy replication of a PARMFILE. The local record clone requires a Save As function to be performed; the SPAdmin dialog perform that automatically.
CAUTION:
When performing a local record clone, there are several prompts throughout the process to provide ample time to cancel the function. Once the updates are saved they cannot be reversed.
