Auto-discovery

Auto-discovery enables Concert to help you quickly identify and ingest applications from cloud clusters and virtual machines, automatically generating resilience assessments and topology data across your application landscape.

Auto-discovery in Concert enables the platform to automatically detect applications, services, and environments across Kubernetes, Red Hat® OpenShift®, cloud platforms, and virtual machines. It ingests topology, configuration, and operational data and creates or updates application and environment definitions within Concert.

By eliminating manual onboarding and configuration, auto-discovery accelerates visibility into your application landscape and continuously collects compliance and resilience metrics, including health status, configuration risks, and scaling settings. Auto-discovery generates an initial resilience and compliance posture, enabling better risk identification and operational decision-making.

Key capabilities

Auto-discovery manages the following core functions:
  • Application and environment detection: Automatically detects deployed applications and services across Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, AWS (EKS, ECS, ROSA), IBM Red Hat Openshift Kubernetes Service (IBM ROKS), IBM® Cloud Kubernetes Service (IKS) and VM-based environments.
  • Topology and dependency mapping: Builds the application topology by identifying dependencies, runtime configurations, and resource relationships.
  • Compliance and resilience data collection: Collects metrics such as health checks, configuration risks, scaling settings, and environment posture.
  • Definition management: Creates or updates application and environment definitions in Concert.
  • Automated application definition updates: Creates or updates application and environment definitions in Concert based on discovered data.

Supported discovery paths

Concert supports two strategic discovery approaches based on your environment:
  • Cloud cluster discovery

    Connect Concert directly to your Kubernetes or IBM Red Hat Openshift Kubernetes Service (IBM ROKS) clusters by using the Discover your data flow. This option ingests project (namespace) or cluster-level applications and automatically creates their topology, compliance, and resilience posture.

  • VM-based discovery by using Concert Workflows
    Run discovery workflows on virtual machines to identify:
    • Java applications
    • Containerized applications (Docker or Podman)
    • Images in VM-hosted registry

Prerequisites and permissions

To ensure accurate discovery, compliance, and resilience posture calculation, each platform requires specific role-based access control (RBAC) rules, identity and access management (IAM) permissions, or VM-level access.
