Installing IBM Concert platform

IBM Concert platform runs as a self-hosted deployment in your Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift environment. Install the platform hub first, then the data access layer and capabilities.

Installation components

The IBM Concert platform deployment consists of platform components and capability components.

The platform hub is the only required component. The data access layer is optional but required to enable cross-capability queries and AI features in multi-capability platform instances. The following component packages enable the core functions of the platform.

Platform hub
This component provides the foundational shared services for the platform, such as the main navigation and Concert home. The platform hub is required for any deployment. For multi-capability deployments, you can install both the ITOM component of the data access layer and the platform hub by using the same setup script, as described in Installing the platform hub.
Data access layer

The data access layer enables cross-capability data aggregation, queries, and platform-level AI features.

It is not required for single-capability installations. If you plan to use only one capability, install the platform hub and that capability only.

The data access layer is required for multi-capability scenarios, such as Concert Observe with Concert Optimize, or Concert Protect with Concert Observe.

The data access layer requires two installation components:
  • ITOM, which provides the runtime for the data access layer.
  • TurboLite, which connects the data access layer to the installed capabilities.
Note: Concert Protect, Concert Resilience, Data apps, and Workflows run on the core Concert product. These capabilities operate as a single unit and do not require the data access layer to work together.

Although the platform hub must be attached to at least one capability to enable the platform, each capability is optional. You install only the capabilities that you intend to use. The following capabilities are available.

Concert Optimize
Powered by Turbonomic, which provides the resource optimization capability. Concert Optimize continuously analyzes application demand and the resources that support it.
Concert Observe
Powered by Instana, which provides the core observability capability. Concert Observe gives you unified visibility across applications and infrastructure.
Concert Protect and Concert Resilience
Powered by Concert core product. Concert Protect is the risk and vulnerability management capability. Concert Resilience continuously measures and improves the resilience of your applications and environments. The Concert product also includes Concert Workflows and Data Apps when you enable them during installation.

Installation overview

Complete the following steps to install IBM Concert platform.

  1. Review prerequisites and system requirements. Verify that your environment meets the requirements for IBM Concert platform deployment, including cluster access, entitlement keys, and required command-line tools.
  2. Install the platform hub. Install the foundational platform hub components that provide the main navigation and shared services.
    Note: If you plan to run Concert Protect and Concert Resilience on the same cluster or VM as the platform hub, install Concert first using the Concert product documentation. The Concert installer also installs the platform hub and ITOM when it deploys Concert Protect and Concert Resilience. After you complete that installation, return to step 3 to install the data access layer and complete the configuration. If you do not plan to install Concert Protect and Concert Resilience, or if you install them on a separate cluster or VM, proceed with step 2 to install the platform hub.
  3. Install the data access layer. Install ITOM and TurboLite to enable Concert home and other cross-capability queries and AI features. If you are installing only one capability, you do not need to install the data access layer.
  4. Install capabilities. Install only the capabilities that you purchased. Each capability is powered by a specific product. Install each product and attach it to the platform hub.
  5. Configure watsonx.ai. Your license includes a software entitlement for a watsonx.ai self-hosted instance for use only with the platform. Configure this instance or an existing instance to support platform AI features.
  6. Configure platform AI agents. Register AI agents with the platform hub. Configure capability-specific AI agents to enable the Concert assistant and other AI-powered features.
  7. Configure authentication. Set up Keycloak to provide authentication services for the platform hub and attached capabilities.

  • Concert Core Observability: can be enabled either through IBM watsonx.ai (on-prem), as a Supporting Program OR through Licensee’s separate subscription to Custom Models or BYO AI Platform (as these terms defined in the LI).

  • Concert Optimize: can be enabled either through IBM watsonx.ai (on-prem), as a Supporting Program OR through Licensee’s separate subscription to watsonx.ai Runtime as a Service (Cloud Service) or through IBM watsonx.ai (On Prem Software).

  • Concert Protect, Concert Resilience, and Concert Workflows: can be enabled through: IBM watsonx.ai (on-prem), as a Supporting Program, OR through Licensee’s separate subscription to IBM Bob Cloud Service (“Bob”).   • Concert platform AI: can be enabled through IBM watsonx.ai (on-prem), as a Supporting Program, OR through Licensee’s separate subscription to watsonx.ai Runtime as a Service (Cloud Service) or through IBM watsonx.ai (On Prem Software), OR through Licensee’s separate subscription to IBM Bob Cloud Service.
