Creating a Planning Analytics as a Service data server connection
Procedure
- Go to the Create data server connection wizard.
- Click the Open menu icon
. - Click .
- Click the Open menu icon
- In the field Name, type a unique name for the connection.
- Select the IBM Planning Analytics as a Service data server type from the list of supported types and click Next.

If you are connecting to Planning Analytics as a Service on IBM Cloud Pak for Data:
- For IBM® Cognos® Analytics 12.1.1 and earlier releases

- Under Connection details, enter the database host as
follows:
https://<planning-analytics-host>/api/v0/tm1/<serverName> - Under Authentication method, select either:
- Select Use an external namespace, in the Method
drop-down list and select your namespace used by IBM Cloud Pak for Data in the list,
or
- Use signon.
To use this method, log into IBM Cloud Pak for Data and generate an API key. The same user name will be your Cognos user ID and the password will be your API key.
- Select Use an external namespace, in the Method

- Click Test connection to verify that the data server connection works,
and then click Next.Tip: If a message starting with XTR-ERR-0005 appears, see XTR-ERR-0005 error when testing IBM Planning Analytics data source from IBM Cognos Analytics 12.0.3 (https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7144464) for information about resolving the issue.
- Under Connection details, enter the database host as

- For Cognos Analytics 12.1.2 and later releases

https://<planning-analytics-host>/api/v0/tm1/<serverName> - Under Authentication method, select either:
- Select Prompt for the user ID and password
or
- Use signon.
To use this method, log into IBM Cloud Pak for Data and generate an API key. The same user name will be your Cognos user ID and the password will be your API key.
- Select Prompt for the user ID and password
- Select the Planning Analytics as a Service on Cloud Pak for Data check box to enable the Cloud Pak for Data URL field.
- In this field, enter the explicit URL of the Cloud Pak Platform UI (Zen).
- Click Test connection to verify that the data server connection works, and then click Next.
- Under Connection details, enter the database host as
follows:
- If you are connecting to Planning Analytics as a Service on other platforms, such as AWS:
- Under Connection details, enter the database host as follows:
https://<planning-analytics-host>/api/<tenantID>/v0/tm1/<serverName>Note: You can find the tenantID in the URL after you log into IBM Planning Analytics as a Service. - Under Authentication method, select either:
- Use signon
or
- Prompt for the user ID and password.
Enter the apikey word as the user ID and the password is the API key that is generated from within IBM Planning Analytics as a Service.
- Use signon
- Click Test connection to verify that the data server connection works,

- Under Connection details, enter the database host as follows:
- Optional:In the Commands tab, you can select
commands that you want the database to perform. Click .

- Click Create.
- Optional:If you want to load assets (also referred to as metadata) from
the data server, click Load. You can also come back to this page later and
load assets.Tip: You must load assets before you can create a data module.

- Click Done.
- Results
- The new IBM Planning Analytics as a Service data server appears in the Data server connections pane.
