Highlight data using configurable interactive brushing

Configurable interactive brushing enables report authors to define highlighting and filtering behaviors in single or multiple data containers.
Important: You can use this configurable data brushing as of release 12.1.1.

These data containers might be lists, crosstabs, repeaterTables, charts, 11.0 and 11.1 visualizations, and data tables, and they don't have to share the same data source and be on the same page of a report.

Apply the interactive brushing when you edit, view or run a report in the HTML format, as an author or consumer, with the Run with full interactivity property turned on. For more information, see Limited and fully interactive reports.

This configurable data brushing differs from the interactive brushing of IBM® Cognos® Analytics 12.1.0 in the following aspects:
  • You can configure this interactive brushing with advanced capabilities in a report in edit mode, when the Edit toggle is turned on Edit toggle turned on.
  • You have the full control of data brushing behaviors. You can define parameters, parameter values, conditions, and connections between data containers in three places after you select a data container of your interest:
    • In the Interactive Behavior window that you can open by clicking the Interactive Behavior icon interactive behavior icon in the on-demand toolbar.
    • In the Create a new connection window that you can open by clicking the Create a new connection icon create a new connection in the toolbar.
    • In the INTERACTIVE BEHAVIOR section of the Properties pane.
  • You can highlight data items in a single data container.
  • You can apply interactive brushing to 11.1 visualizations and data tables.
    Restriction: Data tables only apply row level highlighting and do not support cell level primary and secondary styles.
  • In the visualizations and data tables, you can combine highlighting with filters to additionally enhance the visibility of selected data items.
Note: When you decide to use this configurable interactive brushing, consider disabling the Interactive brushing icon Interactive brushing that is available in view mode to avoid conflicting highlighting.
