Setting up parameters

You must set up parameters and their values that determine data brushing behaviors in data containers.

Parameters must be set up for each data container in which you want to select and highlight data items. You can use same parameters in multiple data containers.

Use this procedure to set up parameters of interactive data brushing.

Procedure

  1. Optional: In the report toolbar, turn on the Edit toggle edit toggle icon.
  2. Select a data container.
  3. Open the Set parameter values window in one of the following ways:
    • Optional: Click the Interactive Behavior icon interactive behavior icon in the on-demand toolbar, and then click the Edit... icon edit icon right to Set parameter values.
    • Optional: Click the Properties icon , and in the INTERACTIVE BEHAVIOR section of the Properties pane, click the More icon right to the Set parameter values property.
  4. In the Set parameter values window, click Create a new parameter.
  5. In the Name field, enter a new parameter name.
    Note: You should create a new parameter instead of using Report Parameters or Global Parameters that are available in the drop-down list.
  6. Click OK.
    Note: Create a parameter for each data item that you want to be highlighted or used as a filter, if filters are available for a data container.
  7. Define values for created parameters. You can set one of the following values:
    • Do not set
    • Set to empty
    • A data item that is present in data container.
  8. Optional: Turn on the edit toggle icon toggle under Auto-submit to refresh data in visualizations if a parameter is used for data filtering.

    When you enable the Auto-submit option, all changes that you make to the
parameter value are automatically submitted to the server and cause the report page to re-render.
Depending on the report page complexity, this action might take a considerable amount of time to
complete.

    Tip: If the parameter that you want to change is not referenced in a query or in a
report expression, avoid enabling this option.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Optional: Repeat steps 3 to 9 for each parameter that you want to create.
  11. Optional: Click OK to close the Interactive Behavior window.
