Adding custom indicators

You can use colors, icons, shapes or custom images as visual indicators of performance or trends in the data. The indicators represent positive, negative, or 0 values.

The product includes built-in icons and shapes that you can use as indicators. You can also provide your own, custom images or text to use in this role.

About this task

If you specify custom indicators for a column, the values in the column are replaced by the indicators. To add indicators to the data table and retain the numeric values, add the same measure column to the data table twice. Then, apply the indicators to one column, and leave the other column unchanged.

Procedure

  1. Choose a measure column in the data table for which you want to add custom indicators. Click the column heading.
  2. In the application bar, click the Show properties icon Show properties icon.
    The properties pane is opened.
  3. Under GENERAL properties, select the Custom indicators property, and click its context menu icon Context menu.

The Custom indicators dialog box is opened.

  4. Specify one of the following types of indicators:
    Colored
This indicator is a combination of icons, such as circles or up and down arrows, and colors. You can choose from the built-in icons and colors to represent the positive, negative, and 0 values. The icon size doesn’t change depending on the value.
    Sized
This indicator is a combination of shapes, such as circles or squares, and colors. You can choose from the built-in shapes and colors to represent the positive, negative, and 0 values. The shape size changes depending on the value.
    HTML
Use this option to provide a custom image or text as an indicator. Click the edit icon Edit icon for the positive, negative, and 0 values, and insert an HTML code snippet into the area provided. For example, the weather-related icons from the example in the Data tables topic are based on the following HTML code.
For the positive values, the following code was used:
