Generating a dashboard automatically

Use automatic dashboards for learning purposes, as a proof of concept, or as a starting point when trying to create a dashboard.

You can generate automatic dashboards in the following ways:

• By using the Create dashboard and Create dashboard from the chart commands in the Assistant.

• From the Upload and create and Create from existing data tiles on the Cognos Analytics welcome page.
  On-Demand version only: Drag one or more files from your local drive into one of two drop zones that pop up on the welcome page:

  Your data file is first uploaded to My content. Then this page appears:

  

  • Double-click Automatic dashboard to create a dashboard using the data you uploaded. If you uploaded multiple files, you are first prompted to select the one you want. If an automatic dashboard cannot be generated from the selected source, a message suggests that you select a different source or create a different type of asset.

    or

  • Click Insights in Assistant, and then click Continue. The Assistant panel appears, allowing you to gain insights on your uploaded data.

    or

  • Double-click either Blank dashboard, Data module, or Exploration. The corresponding asset is created with your uploaded data already available.

  Your data is uploaded to My content.

If an automatic dashboard cannot be generated from the selected source, you might need to select a different source or create a different type of asset.
