You can organize column data into groups so that the data is easier to read and analyze.
Create data groups directly in a dashboard without having to open the data modeling
component.
About this task
Complete the following steps to create a group, see what columns are included in the group, edit
the name of the group, or remove a group.
Note: Data groups can be applied to measures and to relational databases only. If you are using an
OLAP package, the Create data group option is not available.
Procedure
- Open a visualization that has a measure.
- Click any white space in the visualization.
A toolbar
appears.
- Click the Select tool icon in the
toolbar.
- Select the columns that you want to include in a group.
Tip: Alternatively, Ctrl+click one or more columns that you want to include in a
group.
- Ctrl+click one of the columns.
A menu appears.
- From the menu, click Create data group.
- Type a name for your data group and click OK.
- To see what columns are included in a data group:
- Ctrl+click the data group column on a visualization and click Drill
down.
The separate individual columns that make up the data group are
displayed.
- To redisplay the data group as one column, Ctrl+click a column and click
Back.
- To edit the name of a data group:
- Ctrl+click the data group column on a visualization and click Create data
group.
- Click Rename, type a name and click
Replace.
- To remove a data group:
- Ctrl+click the data group column on the visualization and click Create data
group.
- Click Ungroup.
The data group is removed from
the visualization.
Results
Your data groups appear in the data tray for the dashboard and in the fields for the
visualizations that use the data groups. Data groups are not displayed in the Selected
sources panel.
