Column

Use a column visualization to compare values by one or more columns.

Column visualizations use vertical rectangles, columns, to present numerical values as the heights of columns for categorical data, for example, locations. If there are so many columns that the labels are impossible to read, filter the data to focus on a subset of the data or use a tree map.

The following image shows an example of a column visualization.
This example of the column visualization shows Maximum Range compared to Target for various States.

To re-create this area visualization, perform the following steps:
  1. From a dashboard, click the Visualizations icon and in the System tab of the Visualizations pane, select Column.
  2. Click the Select a source button in the Data pane, and in the Select a source window go to Samples/By industry/Insurance/Data. Select the Customer analysis data module and click Add.
  3. Drag the following data sets onto the indicated fields:
    • State onto the Bars field.
    • Maximum Range onto the Length field.
    • Target onto the Target field.

The following animation demonstrates the previous steps.
