You can enhance IBM®
Cognos® Analytics maps
by adding custom point or region information from Mapbox to them. You do this by adding a layer on
the map to display the additional information.
Before you begin
You must have created a tileset in Mapbox that contains the custom region or point data that you
want to add to the map. The tileset that Mapbox generates has the following properties. You must
have these values ready to configure in your map:
- Map ID
- Layer name
- Property name
Procedure

Click New, and then click Report.

In the Templates and themes window, click Blank,
and then click OK.

On the canvas, click the Pinned icon , and then click
Visualization.

In the Visualization gallery, click Map, and then
click OK.

In the left pane, click the Add report data icon , select report data that
contains region or point data.

On the data slot pane, click the down arrow and select:
- Regions, if you want to use region data from Mapbox.
- Points, if you want to use point data from Mapbox.

In the left pane, expand your data items and drag point or region data to the
Locations data slot.

Drag a measure to the Location color or Point
color data slot.
- Specify the properties for the custom region or point data. You must obtain the values of
the properties for Map ID, Layer name, and Property name from the Mapbox. Make sure the
visualization is selected on the canvas, and in the Properties pane, under
REGIONS or POINTS, specify the following
properties:
Note: Use the same sentence case as used in the Mapbox properties.

Transparency |
Transparency of the region fill. 0 is fully opaque and 100 is completely
transparent. |
Map ID |
The Mapbox unique map ID |
Layer name |
The layer name that is used in the Mapbox map |
Property name |
The custom property name that you want to use from the Mapbox map |
Type |
Defines how points are grouped. Choices are no grouping, heat, and clustered. Applies only
to points (and latitude/longitude). |
- Select Page preview to run the report.
Note: You can also click to run the report.
- Select Page design to return to page design mode. If you ran the
report from Run options, close the tab, which returns you to page design
mode.
Example
An example of a map visualization with a region layer that shows the population for each
time-zone. The layout of the time-zones is defined in a Mapbox map.
