Enabling server-side data caching

You can configure a dashboard to use server-side caching to improve performance.

About this task

By default, the dashboard's Server data cache setting is Automatic, meaning that it uses the metadata modeler configuration for caching in the metadata model. You can override the model's default server-side cache setting by changing the Server data cache property in the dashboard's Advanced properties.

  1. Click the Properties icon.

If you don't see the Properties icon, click the Switch to edit icon.

  2. For the entire dashboard or story, make sure that no other objects have focus by clicking the background, away from any visualization or object.
  3. Expand Advanced and select an option from the Server data cache menu.
This option is the default setting. This setting reflects the data cache setting as it was specified by the modeler in a Framework Manager package or data module.
This option ensures that server-side caching is on.
Note: When the property Refresh automatically is enabled on a visualization, data is not cached for that visualization and fresh data is retrieved at the interval as specified by the dashboard author.
    No cache
This option ensures that fresh data is retrieved from the data source each time the dashboard is run or you modify a dashboard or story.

What to do next

In addition to server-side caching, you can also configure browser-side caching for further performance gains during your dashboard session. For more information, see Specifying data elements for browser-side caching.
