Customizing conditional colors on a KPI visualization
Use a key performance indicator (KPI) visualization to display a KPI that contains two related measures, such as actual revenue and target revenue. Optionally, you can display a meaningful shape in your KPI visualizations.
A KPI visualization compares a base value to a target value and shows the variance between the two measures.
For example, this KPI visualization shows the actual revenue in red with a down arrow to indicate that revenue is down compared to the target. In this case, the target value is target revenue. A sparkline displays the shape of the variation over time and is the same color as the base value.
- Drag a measure onto the Target value data slot.
- Drag another measure onto the Base value data slot. This value is the actual target.
- Drag another measure onto the Time data slot. This value creates a sparkline for your KPI visualization. You can add multiple measures, for example Years and Months, to the Time data slot.
Use the Properties tab to customize a KPI visualization. For example, the properties are set by default to display a green conditional color when the target is met and a red conditional color if the target is not met. To display the actual target in another color, you can select the Text color, and then select a color.
When the Conditional color is enabled, you can customize the KPI visualization properties. The following information describes each of the KPI properties under Set range:
- Scale
Use the Scale property to choose between Numeric or Percentage for when you select values for your ranges. Select Numeric to use the range to compare against the base value. Select Percentage to see a comparison of the percentage of the base value against the target value.
- Number of ranges
You can choose 1 - 3 ranges.
The following information describes the KPI properties under Selected range:
- Start value and End valueSelect a range and set the Start value and End value.Tip: You cannot type Min and Max as values. To reset the Min value for the Start value on the first range or the Max value for the End value for the last range, delete the field that you want to reset.
- Text color
Select a range and set the color for the base value, sparkline, and indicator shape. There are five colors to choose from.
- Indicator shape
Select a range and choose a shape to display on the KPI visualization when the base value falls within the start value and end value for that range. For example, you might want to display a down arrow when your base value falls below a certain threshold compared to the target value. Optionally, you can select No shape to remove the indicator shape from your KPI visualization.
