Applying consistent colors to the same values

When multiple visualizations on the canvas share a category or value, you can use the dashboard Color consistency setting to ensure that the same color is assigned to this category or value in each visualization.

About this task

For this setting to be effective, the same color palette must be used for each visualization.

When the Color consistency setting is enabled, the same color is assigned to the shared category or value in different visualizations. This color is not used in other visualizations that do not include the shared value. For example, in the following image, the same colors are applied to the Region values, Asia Pac, EMEA, and North America, in the two visualizations that include the Region category.

Color consistency turned on

When the Color consistency setting is disabled, a different color can be assigned to the shared category or value in different visualizations. This color can be used in other visualizations that do not include the shared value. For example, in the following image different colors are applied to the Region values, Asia Pac, EMEA, and North America, in the two visualizations that include the Region category.

Color consistency turned off

For new dashboards and stories, the Color consistency setting is on by default. For upgraded dashboards, the Color consistency setting is off by default because you might have selected specific palettes for different visualizations.
