Using Active Report Viewer

Use Active Report Viewer to view and interact with IBM® Cognos® Analytics with Watson active reports.

The reports must be saved in the .mht file format.

Open Active Report Viewer

Open Active Report Viewer from the Start menu on your computer. You can also open this application from the file system. To do that, right-click any .mht file, select Open with, and choose Active Report Viewer.

View and interact with active reports

When you open a .mht file in Active Report Viewer, the file is not imported, but only referenced.

Use any of the following methods to open an active report:

  • From the File menu, click Open. Browse for a .mht file in your file system.
  • Drag a .mht file from a folder in your file system, and drop it onto the Active Report Viewer window, either on top of another report or the Recent view.
  • Right-click an .mht file in your file system. Click Open with, and select Active Report Viewer.
  • In the Recent view, find and click the .mht file if it was viewed recently.

The following example shows an active report in Active Report Viewer.

You can open multiple reports, or the same report, at the same time in different Active Report Viewer windows. To do that, from the File menu, click New Window. The new window opens the Recent view from where you can open the report. You can also drag a .mht file onto this view.

The Recent view

This view shows the recently viewed active reports (.mht files).

The files in this view can be displayed in the Grid view (default) or List view.

You can specify the maximum number of reports to retain in this view. To do that, click File > Preferences, and change the number for the Maximum recent entries preference.

To remove all files from the Recent view, click File > Clear Recent. To return to this view while a report is open, click File > View All Recent, or press the Ctrl W keys on your keyboard.

Customize Active Report Viewer

Use the Preferences to customize Active Report Viewer. To access the preferences, go to File > Preferences.

For example, use the Maximum recent entries preference to specify the maximum number of active reports to keep in the Recent view. Or use the Show viewer menu bar preference to hide or show the menu bar in the application window when a report is viewed. To toggle between the two menu bar states press the Alt key on your keyboard.
