Stacked bar

Use a stacked bar visualization to compare the proportional contributions for each item to the total, such as sales for products and sales for products each month.

A stacked bar visualization can show change over a specific time period or compare the proportional contributions for each item to the total. If there are so many bars that the labels are impossible to read, filter the data to focus on a subset of the data or use a tree map.

Example of a stacked bar visualization that shows product cost, revenue and gross profit by product type.

To re-create this stacked bar visualization, perform the following steps:

  1. From a dashboard, click the Visualizations icon Visualizations icon, and in the System tab of the Visualizations pane, select Stacked bar.
  2. Click the Select a source button in the Data pane, in the Select a source window go to Samples > By feature > Core > Data. Select the Great Outdoors data module and click Add.
  3. Drag the following data sets onto the indicated fields:
    • Product type onto the Bars field
    • Product cost onto the Length field
    • Revenue onto the Length field
    • Gross profit onto the Length field
