Key driver

A key driver is an input field or combination of input fields that has a statistically significant effect on a target field. This effect is more than a mere association because the effect is directed. The input field or fields are influencing the values in the target.

Key drivers are the most important main effects and interaction effects. By identifying key drivers, you can discover which field or combination of fields have the most effect on a target. The values in the input fields are driving the values in the target.

You can use key drivers to take action on your business. For example, you discover that a key driver of customer satisfaction is staff knowledge. This result suggests that more training might improve customer satisfaction.

Important: If there are many inputs, IBM® Cognos Analytics with Watson might find many drivers. Only the top 50 drivers per target are reported as key drivers.
