Support for 64-bit installation

IBM® Cognos® for Microsoft Office supports a 64-bit environment, which provides better memory management and improved scalability and performance. You now have a choice between installing and running 32-bit and 64-bit versions of IBM Cognos for Microsoft Office. The IBM Cognos application is able to run in a 32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Office version of Word, PowerPoint, or Excel, on a 64-bit operating system.

If you perform a 64-bit installation, the default path that is used for installation is different from the default path that is used in a 32-bit installation. The following is the default installation directory:

• x64 default directory: C:\Program Files\IBM\cognos\Cognos for Microsoft Office
• x86 default directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\cognos\Cognos for Microsoft Office

Support for Microsoft Office 2010

Version 2010 of the Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software is now supported for IBM Cognos for Microsoft Office.

Because the new Office Open XML format is a recognized industry standard supported by ECMA International, the new format, which is supported by Microsoft Office 2010, facilitates extensibility and interoperability by enabling implementations on multiple platforms.

Support for Mozilla Firefox

Version 4 of the Mozilla Firefox web browser is now supported for IBM Cognos for Microsoft Office.

Support for Internet Explorer

Version 9 of the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser is now supported for IBM Cognos for Microsoft Office.
