Select File

Use to select an input file to process. After the administrative client displays the input file in the report window, press F1 for more information.

PC File
Use to select an IBM® i spooled file that you saved on the PC. Click Open to open the Open dialog box and select the spooled file. The number of pages that are read into the report window is determined by the Pages to Display fields.
Spooled File
Use to retrieve a spooled file from an IBM i output queue and save the spooled file as a file on the PC. You can then process the file on the PC with the administrative client. First, select a method to search for spooled files. Then click Retrieve List to retrieve the list of files. Next, select a file from the Spooled Files list. Then click OK to open the Save As dialog box to name the file and specify a location on the PC. The number of pages that are written to the file is determined by the Pages to Display fields.
Selection Method
Search by User
Type a user name or *ALL in the space provided. The name can be a maximum of 10 bytes. In addition, you can optionally specify any of the Also Search By values. When *ALL is used as the user name, one or more of the Also Search By values must be specified. Then click Retrieve List. A request is made to search for spooled files that are owned by the user. The files can reside on any IBM i output queue. The list of spooled files is displayed in the Spooled Files area. To select a file, click an item in the list and then click OK.
Search by Output Queue
Type an output queue name and the library name in the spaces provided. The names that you specify can be a maximum of 10 bytes. The library name can be specified as *LIBL to use the IBM i library list to locate the output queue. Optionally, specify any Also Search By values. Then click Retrieve List. A request is made to search for spooled files that are located on the specified output queue which is contained in the specified library. The list of spooled files is displayed in the Spooled Files area. To select a spooled file, click an item in the list and then click OK.
Also Search By
User Data: Type the value of the user data of the spooled files to be selected. You can also type a generic value of the user data, which is a character string that contains one or more characters followed by an asterisk (*). This field is optional and has a maximum length of 10 bytes.
Form Type: Type the value of the form type of the spooled files to be selected. You can also type a generic value of the form type, which is a character string that contains one or more characters followed by an asterisk (*). This field is optional and has a maximum length of 10 bytes.
Job: Type the name of the job that created the spooled files to be selected. You can also type a generic name of the job, which is a character string that contains one or more characters followed by an asterisk (*). This field is optional and has a maximum length of 10 bytes.
File: Type the file name of the spooled files to be selected. You can also type a generic name of the file, which is a character string that contains one or more characters followed by an asterisk (*). This field is optional and has a maximum length of 10 bytes.
Pages to Display
Determines the number of pages that are retrieved from the spooled file, saved in the file on the PC, and displayed in the report window. When displaying a PC file (that is, a spooled file that has already been retrieved and saved on the PC), a subset of the total number of pages can be displayed, but the starting page number is 1 (one).
All Pages
Use to retrieve all pages from the spooled file, save the pages in the file on the PC, and display the pages in the report window.
Starting Page
Use to specify the starting page number that you want to retrieve. For example, if a spooled file contains 1000 pages, you can retrieve the first ten pages of the file by specifying 1 (one) in the Starting Page field and 10 (ten) in the Maximum Pages field; you can retrieve pages 11 through 20 of the file by specifying 11 (eleven) in the Starting Page field and 10 (ten) in the Maximum Pages field.
Maximum Pages
Use to limit the number of pages that are retrieved from the spooled file, saved in the file on the PC, and displayed in the report window. The maximum number that you can specify is 10000 (pages).
